Award-winning vocalist Sarah Ellen Hughes has established herself as a notable presence on the London jazz scene and beyond.

Championed by distinguished vocalists Claire Martin and Ian Shaw, Sarah has recently released her first album: “Darning the Dream” on SaySo Records. The recording features Sarah’s quartet (Darren Altman, Rick Simpson, Tom Farmer/Andy Hamill¬) plus special appearances from Jim Hart, Dave O’Higgins and Ian Shaw. The album includes Sarah’s arrangements of well-known standards, as well as her own compositions.

The album was launched to a packed audience at London’s 606 club and has been receiving rave reviews from many of the UK’s most important music publications. It was selected as UK Jazz Radio’s “CD of the month” for a record three months running in early 2010.

Sarah has received International recognition, coming away with the first prize at the 2010 International Jazz Singing Competition “Jazz Voices,” competing against entrants from Japan, USA and all over Europe.

For three years, Sarah was the principal vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). Notable performances include Ronnie Scott's (Jan 07 & Jan 08), Pizza Express Dean Street (2006), and The Stables at Wavendon with the late John Dankworth (2007).

The release of Sarah’s debut album was followed by a 24-date UK tour. Sarah’s busy gig calendar indicates her popularity and appeal as a significant British vocalist: “A talent to look out for” - Jazz Journal.
